The Show Must Go On

Recently, I've found that I can no longer both play video games and keep up with college work.  On top of that, the nerve damage in my hands seems to get worse with every passing week.  As such, I won't be on Xbox Live or Mabinogi for a little while, possibly for the next few weeks.  I really can't say when I'll be back on.

The main issue is that I need to keep above a certain grade for a scholarship.  Without it, I probably wouldn't be able to continue to go to Drexel.  And this term has been harder than ever.  I don't think that I'll be able to continue to play video games while working on so many projects at once.

Perhaps it's simply my lack of organization, and maybe someone else would do a better job in my place than I would, maybe they could keep up with everything at once, but I know my limitations, and I know that I can't.

As I said before, the nerve damage in my left hand seems to be getting worse as well.  It hurts just to type this, but it would hurt anyways, so I figure I might as well be productive with the time I'm given.  For a long time now, I've been able to ignore it decently well, but unfortunately it looks like that time has come to an end.   It seems to have flared up around when this term started, which in my opinion further solidifies my theory that it's triggered by stress.

I believe that if I stop playing video games for a while, I'll have more time for homework and studying, thus I'll be less stressed and have good grades, thus the pain will subside back to its previous, more bearable level.

I'll continue to post here as much as I can.  I'll also keep writing music when I get the time; it seems that no matter how hard I try, I can't stop myself from writing, even when I probably shouldn't be.  I'd like to keep in touch with everyone on Xbox Live if I could, so please post here if you get the time.

Album Art and Stuffs

Really really quick update:

Mitch made awesome album art for some of my older CD's and I'm working on a 70 minute progressive metal song.  I'll post a real update sometime today, honest, but I gots lots of homework to catch up on.  College comes first.

I am

So.  Update.

I've been working in Audition and Sapi 5.  I will be releasing music on a regular basis soon.  I am very busy right now, unfortunately.  In the meantime, I'll just leave this here̡̢̛̗̘̙̜̝̞̟̠̊̋̌̍

4 Days a Missed Update

Sorry, forgot to update yesterday.  I'll have the actual update up sometime tomorrow.  Also, I'm broadcasting demos of Alter via BlogTV whenever I can, so feel free to check that out.

5 Days a Stranger

So, I've gotten a few questions and whatnot, but people don't seem to comment on the site that much anymore, if at all.  Again, feel free.  Anywho, still working away on Alter.  Also, I gots a new account in Mabsnogs (Selkies) so add that one if you didn't already.

Alter's soundtrack is sounding pretty decent at this point.  The combat is solid, and some of the end game fights look pretty awesome.  So we're almost there, I guess.  I'll be on break starting this Friday, so I'll have a little more time to work, as well.

Once again, don't be afraid to ask questions, although everyone seems to be doing those in person anyways, so whatevs.

6 Days A Sacrifice

Well, it's around 7 a.m. over here, and that sounds like the perfect time to start an Alter questions and answers page!  So, feel free to post any questions or comments you have about the game here, and I'll try to post a reply in a timely fashion.

7 Days To The Wolves

Alter Update: The majority of the main game has been finished.  I'm still working on weapon balance, and I'm changing the difficulty and the pacing of certain areas of the game.  I'm also rehashing a lot of the soundtrack, and adding a lot more instrumental background songs for the fights.  I'm looking back through everything and I'm finding tons of typos in the dialogue towards the end...correcting them is a pain (No spellcheck in RPG Maker).  Hopefully, I'll be able to release a playable beta within the month.

In other news, my Human Computer Interaction final was pretty easy.  We had to take the final online, through the Blackboard program.  Also, Resident Evil 5 is amazing.  Co-op makes almost everything better.

I'd type more, but I'm trying to get as much work done as possible before tomorrow.  Feel free to comment if you have any questions about Alter. I'll be able to respond here much more in depth than I would in person, it's easier to type explanations than tell them.

Save Us From This Masquerade of Life

I'm planning on having much more consistent updates for this site, so here we go.

Been playing Halo Wars recently.  It's an absurdly well balanced strategy game, and it adheres to most of the sensibilities of the shooter trilogy it originated from.  Gauss Warthog rushes are fun (for me, at least)...anywho, if you haven't picked it up, I suggest you do at some point in time, you're missing out.

Played a few relatively new demos too, namely the Watchmen game, Afro Samurai, and Wanted.  The Watchmen game is an entertaining co-op brawler where you play as Rorschach or Night Owl.  While the level design in the demo was bland and uninspired, my roommate and  I still managed to have fun.  The Afro Samurai game, on the other hand, was hilarious.  I think it's impossible for me to take Samuel L. Jackson seriously.  Finally, the Wanted game felt absurdly similar to an old game that I think was called KillSwitch (not entirely sure on that one).  It was all about taking cover, a constantly dwindling supply of ammo, and a very small amount of room for error.  It wasn't perfect be any means, but again, it was entertaining for a bit, and that might be enough to warrant a purchase for me, anyways.

Oh yeah, and the PAX 10 annual independent games showcase is accepting submissions.  Just a heads up, though, I don't really know if I'll have any time for a decent entry.  We shall see.

Paradise Lost

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been working on a lot recently.

I've been listening to a new band called Symphony X.  Two of their CD's in particular, "The Odyssey" and "Paradise Lost", are very well made.  Songs like The Sacrifice and Masquerade[*] are great examples of a combination of 80s fantasy metal and progressive rock combined into one crazy maelstrom of epic.

Anywho, I'm still doing artsy stuff, still working on Alter, and still finalizing my next CD.  Also, writing a physics essay, and while we're on the subject of writing, I've been thinking about writing a book trilogy at some point or another.  Mulling it over, it seems really impractical to start writing it now, but I really don't want to let the ideas go to waste.  Half shapeshifting, musical magic, and sensible airships abound in the story, but again, I just don't know if I have the time for it.

And one of these days, I'll post that musical compendium.  Now back to Symphony X...

Many of the people who listen to my music or visit this site play Mabinogi, or at the very least, have played it casually.  So most of you are already aware of the problems plaguing the new update.  For those who don't, Mabinogi was supposed to release a massive update today, with tons of all new content.  As of now, it's been delayed so much that it's almost a day late, players have had issues even loading their characters, customer service isn't even attempting to help, etc.

Now, I don't want to come off as a whiny little kid who can't play his game, but seriously.  As a company, when you announce that you are releasing an update to your product, one that millions of users use, and then instead, you shut down all access to your product, then tell people to delete all the files pertaining to your product and redownload it...and then SHUT DOWN YOUR DOWNLOAD, thereby denying all access to your product....ack.

The point is, I liken it to if your car breaks down while still under warranty.  You have every right to complain.  Why?  Because you paid for a service and it wasn't rendered per your agreement.  It doesn't matter if you know how to build a car or not, you don't need to know that because you paid for the damn thing.  That's the beauty of a free market system.  You have the right to ask for compensation.

Furthermore, why don't they just announce "Mabinogi will be shut down for the day/tommorrow/week", as opposed to delaying it in 2-4 hour increments throughout the day?  It boggles the mind.

Once again, I am not complaining that "I can't play my game."  I have plenty of better things to do.  I'm complaining about a company that seriously needs to get their act together.  They couldn't have possibly handled this situation any worse than they did.  I'm still keeping my eye on the site and the forums therein, but I wouldn't bet on exploring any new continents any time soon, or at least not today, anyways.

Oh yeah, and I'll get that compendium up soon, I want to finish my next CD first.  I don't want to pull a Nexon and announce a date before I've fully prepared my product, you see :D
